The ABC Kids Listen App is great screen free entertainment for kids 5 and under.
I recently discovered the ABC Kids Listen audio app. Coincidentally at the same time that my 3 year old dropped his day nap, but I still have a 1 year old who sleeps so it's been an absolute godsend to me. I wanted to share it with other Mums who are in the same boat.
The app is free and my favourite feature is storytime. Similar to Audible, each storytime is about 30 minutes in length and has different presenters read aloud classic children's story books like Guess How Much I Love You and Thomas The Tank Engine, so your child can lay in bed or play quietly while listening. I use it for my son while I am putting the baby to sleep in another room and he loves it.
The app has music, including live radio with kid appropriate songs, kids news, singalongs, dance parties, play inspiration, lullabies, podcasts, meditation and more. It's designed to be calming and provide preschool aged children with a way to listen to age appropriate music and stories. The audio is by your favourite characters from ABC Kids such as the Play School cast, Jimmy Giggle and even the voice actor for Bluey's Dad. So it provides familiarity and comfort.
Unlike YouTube or other apps, you can trust the content. Most of the features run 15-60 minutes in length, or even longer, so you don't even have to give your child your phone or iPad to use. I normally just press play and then put my phone up somewhere high so it can't be used. It's actually designed to be screen free time for your child because of the timer settings and length of sessions.
The app is designed to be used at different times of day and night. There are features for waking up, play, activities, nap time and bed time. It's educational and designed by the Early Years Learning Framework of Australia with parental control settings available.
I highly recommend this app for use at home as another way of having quiet time for children aged between 1 and 5 years old.
What other apps do you use that are wonderful for children? We would love to check them out and share them with the group!
